Review: Gel Kayano Running Shoes

I don’t often review products which aren’t tech related, but in this case I’ll make an exception. As some of you know, I spend a lot of time running, and so I spend a lot of money on running shoes! Lately I’ve been using the Asics Gel Kayano 16 running shoe, and it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. They are expensive, but if you need a good shoe that’s built for overpronating feet then it’s definitely one you should think about.

The most important thing with any running is to make sure they fit well. The Asics range of shoes tend to be a bit different in size to other brands, so make sure you take the time to visit a reputable running shop and get them fitted for you. I’ve made the mistake in the past of ordering online. Once you know what size you are then you can get your next pair without having to go to a shop, but it’s essential the first time.

I love how supportive the gel Kayano’s are. If, like me, you suffer from heavy overpronation then the Asics will give you support that no other shoes will. I don’t want this top sounds like a sales page because it’s not, but I’ve tried a lot of shoes and none are quite like the Kayano’s.

There are some problems with the shoes though. Firstly, I think the shoes wear down a bit too quickly. I run a lot so this is problem due to my mileage more than anything else, but it’s still a shame that 3 months after spending nearly £100 I have to go and get a new pair. They also rubbed a bit when I first bought them, but this seems to happen with any running shoe for me, so I probably just have strange feet.

The iPed Is a Joke After All

I wrote a post ago to ago about an iPad clone I have seen called the iPed. I have been saying how good I thought this gadget looked for the money, and how android was the future blah blah blah.

By coincidence a friend bought one of these tablets a couple of days ago and since writing my previous post I have had a chance to play with one of these in the flesh. Unfortunately it is not a good product.

The build quality is pretty poor. The screen has a very thin covering which looks prone to damage. Furthermore it seems warped and distorted, if you hold into the light you can see ripples, it is absolutely nothing like the iPad.

The whole thing just filled plasticy and cheap. The thing is, I don’t think it is cheap. Sure, it’s only one third of the cost of Apple’s offering however it’s not worth a dime unless you actually use the thing.

Even my friend says he is doubtful whether he would actually use it.

I think the future of this particular tablet is rather uncertain. I think it will spend a couple of years locked in a drawer somewhere before finally being sold on eBay for pretence.

Don’t buy these tablets, it’s terrible!

iPed – No Joke

Like a lot of people I was amused to read about the “iPed”, a Chinese copy of the Ipad. Of course, coming from China, the assumption was that it would be rubbish, but ask yourself this, where are apple products made? The fact is, many many high quality products are made in China for Western companies, and now, the Chinese are learning for themselves how to produce quality electronic products.

Now, I am not saying that the iPed is a “good quality product” as compared the the iPad it is quite limited, however, it is no joke either.

Furthermore, it is of course running Google Android, a very capable operating system, and one which is forcing Apple to re-think the way it locks down its apps. The open nature of Android is proving very popular with developers and customers alike, and so, ANY “pad” that can be offered cheaply running Google Android has potential.

See what you think:

David Beckham Free Kicks

Ok this maybe cheesy but I love David Beckham, I think he is an all time great player and I think he seems a good guy too, despite some of the stuff in the press recently. Anyway I was looking at some football videos on youtube and found this great compilation of a number of Davids free kicks.

For anyone that does not know, free kicks were something of a specialty for David, particularly in his international career. I guess I should not speak in the past tense as he is still playing, but somehow, I dont think we will be seeing any more moments like this from David, but do not despair, its all on tape:

Enjoy the clip!
